In March of this year, we purchased a Joy Systems refurbished HP – ProBook Laptop from BestBuy:
- Model: 640 G2
- SKU: Y3S48UC#ABA
- UPC: 825633455931
- Product number: Y35S48UC#SABA#DABA
After using it occasionally for a couple of months the battery went bad and Joy Systems send us a replacement. We installed the new battery and after charging it put the laptop away.
In early October we plugged in the ProBook and the battery would not charge. Left the computer plugged in overnight and the battery still did not charge. Installed Windows 10 and HP updates and then ran the HP Support Assistant app and got the messages:
- Battery status – replace
- State – 0%, not charging
- Temperature – 78OF
Contacted Joy Systems and they asked us to return the computer.
Now they are saying that they would like to replace the defective laptop but have no refurbished HP – ProBooks available.
Instead, they would like to send us a “HP 840 G3 HP, Core i5-6300U, 2.4GHz”.
They represent that, it is still the same make/model specs as the computer that we sent back.
However, it appears as if the replacement is a HP EliteBook vs the HP ProBook we returned.
When questioned for more information about the replacement such as the replacement’s SKU, UPC, and Product number they refuse to provide any additional information.
Should we be concerned?
