• Reformatting my computer

I have an WIN 98 computer that I have backed up and now “cleaning house” and starting anew.
    1. I deleted the partition (only have one)
    2. Created a new partition (only one)
    3. Displayed the partition, to verify that it did in fact create the partition.
    4. Rebooted and went to the C: prompt and typed in “formate C:” which should have started the formatting process ( I THOUGHT)

Instead, I received the error message: “invalid media type reading c:”

What’s up… is it time to press the panic button? bagged

When you’ve resolved the problem with the error message, you really want to look very seriously at the parameters which usually follow FORMAT C: to make sure the drive is bootable. The only one you need is /S

AND, you can’t FORMAT from the C: drive just yet! There’s nothing on it after doing an FDISK. ‘Fraid you need a boot floppy with the FORMAT command included on it.

I was assuming that the OP had booted from a floppy!

Thank-you… I got it.( I was using the boot disk)
I ended up inserting myWindows 98 disk. When I typed setup, it told me that I could not install, because “C” was not formatted [of course!]…

“would you like to format it now?”
          YES!…

It all worked out,,, thanks for your help!
