• Reduce File Sizes, Yet Again (2003)

    Hello y’all,

    Happy New Year!

I’ve searched our PPT forum here and read the previous threads giving strategies for reducing presentation file sizes.

I didn’t see addressed using JPG’s as background images on slides and the impact third party add-ins might have on reducing file sizes when JPG’s are used as backgrounds. That is, we used the command Format | Background | Fill Effects | Picture tab, then browsed for the picture, and applied the selected picture to only individual slides. These are digital photos, likely not optimized for Web or computer display! 🙁

The particular presentation has some 330+ slides! I am so grateful I’m not expected to attend that slide show.

Any suggestions, beyond what I’ve found on our forum so far?

    Thanks and G’Day,
    Rich

You can optimize all pictures in the presentation for printing or for the screen in one go:
      – Make sure the Picture toolbar is displayed.
      – Click the Compress Pictures button.
      – Select the options you want, then click OK.
      – Save the presentation (or save it under another name, if you want to keep the original version).

        Hi Hans,

        Thanks for the suggestion.

This even effects the photos in the slide backgrounds?

Yes, it does (I tested it)

            Dear Hans,

We just did it for real, on the real presentation.

We successfully reduced the file size from 294mg to 23mg! We tested the slide show, and the client couldn’t tell any image quality degradation.

That was fantastic! AND my client was thrilled! 🙂

            Thanks so much.

            Have a great day,
            G’Day,
            Rich
