I just solved a problem that others may find useful. I created a presentation on my NT machine consisting of lots of embedded maps. The total file size was about 530k. There were about 75 slides. When I tried to view the presentation on a Win 98 machine (also running Powerpoint 2000) in slide sorter view, the first page of slides looked fine, but all subsequent pages (about slides 20-75) were scrambled and many of the graphics were replaced by red X’s. Knowledgebase suggested changing video settings–tried to no avail. The work around was to split the presentation into 5 parts, with only enough slides that would fit in slide sorter view on the 98 machine–about 15 slides per presentation. Voila, all slides look fine now. Not sure what’s going on, but thought the world might like to know.
