The Recycle Bin icon on my Desktop indicates that the Bin has content. When I open the Recycle Bin it appears to be empty and there are 0 objects and 0 bytes. When I press Empty Recycle Bin a dialogue appears: Are you sure you want to delete `WINDOWS’? Yes No
As I am sure I do not wish to delete Windows I click No!

My system is up to date with MS updates for Windows and Office. My antivirus is also uptodate and a virus scan earlier showed nothing suspicious. SpyBot S&D and AdAware also both up to date and have dealt with some tracing cookies and the like.

Has anyone else seen this sort of behaviour?

Visit Kelly’s Corner Tweaks and Tips and apply fix # 64 (right column) or fix # 175 (left column).

Thank you for your reply – I have applied those fixes. But there has been no change to the beaviour of my Recycle Bin.

I copied and pasted the output of the fixes from my browser window into Notepad saving the files with the extension REG. I then ran each file by clicking its file name and OKd the action to add the files’ information to the Registry.

Right click on the desktop and select Properties. Click on the Desktop tab and then on the Customize Desktop button. You can then choose to manually restore your old, empty recycle bin icon by selecting Change Icon or you can let Windows do it by selecting Restore Default. HTH. smile

Edited by HansV to replace reduced screenshot with clearer version

I’ve done what you suggested without any apparent change place. sad

A screen shot is attached to confirm.

              Try the following suggestion:[indent]

Delete any file (just to make sure there’s
              something in the bin).

Then, with the Recycle Bin CLOSED, right click the Recycle Bin desktop
icon, select: Empty Recycle Bin, and when the Confirm File Delete
dialog box comes up, click the OK button. Then reboot your system.
After doing the above, any deleted files should now list correctly in
              the Recycle Bin.

I’ve followed the link in your message and read the item. When I click Empty Recycle Bin a dialogue appears:

              Confirm Multiple File Delete
Are you sure you want to delete these two items?
              Yes No

I do not have the courage (or recklessness) to click Yes. Particularly when I open the Recycle Bin and see only the one object I placed in it for the purposes of this exercise!

            • #1045473

You can safely click Yes. If all goes well, your Recycle Bin will be emptied, otherwise you’ll get a message “Access denied”. You don’t have to worry about Windows really being deleted.

Fortified with red wine with my evening meal I will accept your reassurance. If I am missing hereafter you will know why!

Phew! Back again and it all seems AOK. Now I wonder what I did with that half empty bottle of Rioja Muriel?

Hans – a very sincere thank you. My Recycle Bin is truly empty!

            • #1045486

              >My Recycle Bin is truly empty

Now to solve the problem of the Rioja Muriel, I suggest a large glass, a warm fire and a sofa grin

I’m sure my dear wife will provide the warmth – but after I have consumed the wine!

              > my dear wife will provide the warmth – but after I have consumed the wine!

How do you manage that? It’s always the other way round for me! sad

Hey! You shouldn’t have put that bottle of Rioja in the Recycle Bin! No sense dumping good wine, and the bottle should go into the bottle bank!

You can have a glass of my Quinta da Bacalh
