I have been getting repeated requests for my email password from Outlook 2007. I have tried all 3 methods in KB 290684 with no success.
    KB 290684
The first, creating a new profile, I tried 2 or 3 times. Either it doesn’t work or I didn’t do it right. In safe mode (Method 2) , the problem still occurred. Last night I tried Method 3 but encountered 1 problem. When I clicked on the registry key (step 5) all the boxes for all users were grayed out except the first one for guest. But I continued with the rest of the steps. After rebooting, the problem still occurs.

Help, please. I’m getting my messages from Gmail, but I really want to continue using Outlook (transferred from Gmail via POP).

Have you seen Outlook 2007 – Gmail Help on Google? Also, Add A Gmail account in Outlook may be useful, although it indicates it is for 2003/2002 Outlook.

Thanks for responding, but Gmail isn’t the issue. I had this set up 2 or 3 years ago and it has worked perfectly until now. it’s an Outlook problem, and I am told that even reinstalling Outlook doesn’t help with this particular problem.

On that basis it appears probable that your issue is with your registry settings for Outlook. Does the user account that you edited the registry have Administrator permissions? That might explain why the registry entries were greyed out. If it does, then you may want to get assistance from a Microsoft Support engineer, as things don’t appear to be normal in the registry.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m the only one using this computer so of course I’m the administrator. Something tells me I’m no longer eligible for MS support, so I really feel up the creek with no paddle. I’ve been thinking about upgrading to Windows 7, but right now I don’t have time to do all that.
But everything else on the computer seems to be fine. Maybe I could just try reinstalling Outlook and see what happens.

      Hello,
Have you found a solution to this problem? I am using office XP on a new Windows 7 machine and am having the exact same problem. I also tried the 3 solutions and none worked. I am having no problems with passwords on any other programs, so this is definitely an Outlook problem and not a registry problem. If you find a solution, please forward that to me at RobertDianella@Dianella.com. Thank you. If I find a solution, I will return and let you know.

I also tried the 3 solutions and none worked.

Which three did you try? Did you try the advice in my most recent post.

(For security reasons we recommend that you do not include your email address in posts, as it may be used for purposes you do not intend or welcome.)

I tried the 3 solutions beginning with the new profile and ending with the registry change. Then I saw your post and went to the article and scrolled down to Here We Go and was going to try that, but my registry already contained that value, so there was nothing I could do with that suggestion.

Another month has passed and I still have the same problem. Tried to get MS help but they want $39, and I just bought this program last year and have had no help. I have been told more than once that reinstalling Outlook will not help. I suppose it wouldn’t if you used the old .pst files & profile. My mail comes through gmail, so I am thinking that I could just zap Outlook, store my old files somewhere out of the way, set up a new Outlook and import messages from Gmail for the last 6 or 12 months. Wouldn’t that be away of avoiding whatever the problem is?

To refresh my recollection, does Outlook retrieve mail correctly when you enter your password, but fail to remember it 5 minutes later when it checks for messages again? Or is Outlook just unable to authenticate to Gmail at all, and the symptom is that it keeps asking you to login again?
