I know this is completely out of left field, and I’m not even sure which area is best for posting this, but I’ve discovered a bunch of SparQ disks and I’d like to recover the files on them.

Unfortunately, the SparQ drive won’t install anywhere (not even on my old Win98 laptop).

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks.

      Hi,
You might try using the drivers from here and see if that helps.

        That sounds extremely interesting.

But since I have no real idea what I’m doing, I’m wondering if I download the drivers and use them on my floppy drive, or use them to make the SparQ drive visible?

        Thanks.

Is your SparQ drive internal or external? If external, which port does it connect to – Parallel?
Essentially you need to install the drivers, then connect the drive (may require a reboot first).

            External and parallel.

Okay. I have the original drivers and the updated version (1.03) that was circulated soon after Syquest folded. None of which worked. My hard drive couldn’t find the drive. Are the drivers you’re referring to different? Have they worked out the bugs that were still plaguing?

            Thanks.

First, I should point out I have never owned or used a Sparq drive – I am basing all of this on my experience with Zip drives and anything I have read – so can’t guarantee to help! smile
              However, a few more questions:
Did you have the drive connected at startup of your PC?
Have you used the “add hardware” wizard in Control Panel?
What are the settings for your parallel port in the BIOS?

              The help is sincerely appreciated.

I haven’t tried to hook it up to my PC, which uses XP. I’ve been using an old laptop, which still has Win98. As I recall, the drive was discontinued (and tech support) in the Win95-Win98 days. I wasn’t sure it would work in the XP environment. I did try using the Add Hardware wizard on my laptop. But the computer couldn’t see the drive. I have to confess that I have no idea about the settings for the paralell port in the BIOS or how to find them.

I’m still open to any thoughts or suggestions.

              Thanks.

Before we go into troubleshooting your BIOS setup, can you have a look at this page and confirm that you have done everything mentioned for the installation, including installing the Visit software, which appears to be a requirement to use the drive?
