I am currently using a Blackberry 9330 and it’s time for an upgrade. I am considering replacing it with either a Samsung Galaxy S4, or an iPhone 5C. I plan to use the mobile device primarily as a phone, and for email, calendar, contacts/address book, memos/notes, and occasionally to access the internet. Connection will 4G if available, and 3G if not. Verizon is my carrier and because of where I live it is my only coverage option.
It is vitally important that I be able to easily sync my smartphone organizer data (calendar, contacts/address book, memos/notes) with the Outlook 2003 on my desktop using a USB cable. I do not want to do any syncing using the internet either through Google or elsewhere in the clouds. I do not plan to sync my emails.
My desktop is running Windows 7, and Office 2003 (including Outlook 2003). I have no interest in upgrading my Office or Outlook application. For years I have been easily and accurately syncing my handheld with my desktop – originally with my Palm and Palm Desktop, and then with my Blackberry and Outlook 2003.
As I said phone service and calendar, contacts/address book, memos/notes syncing are my top priorities. I have researched the smartphone/desktop sync issue for both these phones over the internet and cannot find an appropriate answer to my syncing question that will allow me to feel relatively confident in buying either of these devices.
So am I asking if the iPhone 5C or Samsung Galaxy S4 will work better for me?
• What is your experience in syncing each of these phones?
• Is there any third party software that will accomplish my goals that is worth the investment?
• Is there any other guidance you can offer me in making this decision?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide
