Comments:
I was comparing exactly the same pages as rendered by NS4.76 and IE5.5 on a W98 system. The IE5.5 rendering seemed muddy in comparison to NS.
Not acceptable.
Remembered that there were “web font” updates available for free from Microsoft. Got them all. Installed them. Now I am a happy camper. The IE and NS font renderings were now equally sharp.
I don’t know if they are distributed with other systems (eg. W2K), but it does not hurt to have them.
Note: Several of these font upgrades will need a restart before they will be used. Install all of them before restarting.
