My Dell Inspiron 15 3000 laptop, which has very little on it besides Windows, Office, and a few ordinary programs, has gone into a loop with recent updates. I’m afraid to shut it down, but this has been going on for more than two hours now.

The two updates it downloaded and was going to install are KB503771 and 5037791. One said it was waiting for a restart, which is what I did.

I’m guessing I need a link to download an ISO of W11 using this computer, put it on a flash drive, and use it to fix the laptop, but I have never done such a thing.

I will appreciate any guidance. Thank you.

One said it was ready for a restart.
      But the other one didn’t.
I think you interrupted the second one’s download/install.
You should go back to Windows Update and wait for the other one (CU) to say it”s ready for a restart.

I can’t go back to update, because the update(s) is/are continuously trying to reload, then restarting the computer and back into the loading (black screen, “You’re X% there. Please keep your computer on.” That’s the problem.

Well, I got impatient, waited for a reboot to start, and shut the thing down. Returning a few hours later, I was able to log on as normal. I ran a troubleshooter which says it found a couple of update problems and fixed them, but I don’t want to start the game again. I could not find any way to delete, hide or disable the updates. My version is not Pro, but I thought it would be possible. Anyway, I’m just going to wait for the next all-clear from Susan and try again.

But isn’t there some way to clear the queue of uninstalled updates? I did make a restore point before installing — or, rather, attempting to install — but at least one had already been downloaded.

Download and run WuMgr. It will let you check what updates are available and install/hide etc.

      cheers, Paul

Hi, I downloaded and installed WuMgr, but when it tried to find an update, it returns failed — internal error.

Susan, thank you, but this is leading me around in circles for some reason. Perhaps you can help.

I used the link you provided. following the directions I believe you intended, I downloaded the W11 Installation Assistant and ran it as an admin. It brought up a window asking me to check to see if the laptop is W11 compatible. (Yes, it is; it came with it.) That seems to be the end of the road — there is no prompt for doing anything to do a repair install or upgrade to 23H2.

What I am I missing here, please? Thank you.

Susan, thank you very much. I have completed the repair install. One anomaly remains.

As shown in the attachment, Windows Update still shows the two updates it had before, and I’m leery of running them. WuMgr, however, shows a different one, Presumably related to my upgrade to 23H2 with the repair install. Any guidance?

      Thanks

Apparently Windows has now updated itself and installed the remaining problematic updates. Thanks again.
