AskWoody PlusFebruary 7, 2022 at 10:34 am #2423747I’ve been using Anydesk on a daily basis for 5 years for remote desktop. It’s perfectly reliable and an excellent product. Never had any issues. I’m a paying customer. It’s much less expensive than TeamViewer and free for personal use. http://www.Anydesk.com

AskWoody PlusFebruary 7, 2022 at 11:20 am #2423704I’m surprised no one has mentioned the newer Microsoft Remote Desktop app available in the Microsoft Store (and also the Mac App Store). This app is easily configured and I’ve used it on both PCs and Macs.

AskWoody PlusFebruary 7, 2022 at 12:34 pm #2423791I gave up on Teamviewer. I used it for years to assist my now 91 year old father with his computer issues that crop up from time to time, roughly once a month, until I kept getting hit with the you gotta pay for your commercial use lockout. Repeated contacts to Teamviewer failed to resolve the false shutouts as they would not back down that my use was somehow commercial rather than personal — when they answered at all (most times they didn’t) — so like you I switched to Chrome Desktop and that’s worked without issue.

AskWoody PlusMay 2, 2022 at 9:01 am #2443351In your recent column, you quoted a reader, who said,
“The only things I don’t like about it are (1) I can’t copy-and-paste between the two machines, and (2) it does not support dual monitors“
You didn’t correct them, so I wanted to add that Remote Desktop does indeed support dual monitors and also copy and paste as I regularly use those features.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 24, 2023 at 12:06 am #2546274I use Chrome remote desktop or Anydesk. For a long time I was a TeamViewer user, but the connection started to be interrupted every time I used it. At first I didn’t understand what was going on, but I found the answer here https://www.helpwire.app/blog/teamviewer-timeout-issue/ as it turned out I had exceeded the limit. So I switched to Anydesk.
