User created a document and named it. Closed, exited Word. Reopened to make changes to doc – getting the message that the file is locked for editing and choose ‘notify’ or ‘open as read only’. She is the owner of the doc, there are no temporary files. We closed both Word and explorer. The file is still read only.
This is happened to many users since Office 2000 install. Grateful for any ideas/suggestions. TIA

AskWoody LoungerOctober 1, 2001 at 4:16 pm #544865Here’s a wild guess for you (although it actually does have some relation to reality, if slim). Are your users using the close box in the upper right-hand corner to close their documents, or are they clicking on the File menu and choosing Close? Have you tested this? The reason that I’m mentioning this is because we have a problem with people using the close box, then not being able to reopen their documents. However we’re using a document management system called Docs Open and think that the problem lies in the integration with Docs and is not related to Word at all. As I said, it’s a wild guess, but it’s something you might want to test if you’re having wide spread problems with documents not closing correctly. Going to the File menu and choosing Close is the only thing that works all the time for us. Using the close box, the toolbar close button or keystrokes have all been known to cause problems. (And, of course, we’ve had users who have sworn to us that they’re using the menu and when someone went and stood over them, they were actually using a toolbar button, so check them out well!
)
