      I have KB 3013769 already installed and it is being offered again as an optional update. File size is only 311KB and it is not clear why it is being pushed out again. Best to just sit on this one until more info becomes available.

      Does anyone know why patch KB 3013769, which is the December 2014 patch rollup that caused problems with BSODs on machines with Kaspersky antivirus, is being offered again as an optional update. I am running windows 8.1 X64 and I installed this update in February. Now it is offered again in April even though it is shown as an installed patch. I cannot find out why this is occurring and cannot tell if the update should be installed again and, if so, why. Any info on this matter would be appreciated.

      The really mean part about the 380kb newly or re-offered update KB3013769 is that it acts like an auto-approved Update out of the sky.

      Meaning for those which approved it some month ago, all servers find a new update now offered by wsus and aks to install it.

      All clients get it auto-deployed by ConfigMgr and ask the user for a reboot since the deadline to install KB3013769 had been set to month ago.

      PS: The content info tab for the rerelease of KB3013769 shows an added cab-file to the original 56MB file which is 380kb in size and has kb3004545 in its name.

      Apparently the optional KB3013769 offered this month is really KB3004545 traveling incognito. The April update only installs KB3004545, adding it to the December rollup. The addition is a hotfix dealing with an issue regarding VPNs. Why MS just did not issue this as a separate hotfix at this time is a bit of a mystery.

      @Frank

      Weird. That’s the second time they’ve done that lately.

      So would it be okay to install this update now? I’ve been having audio interference problems lately on my Vaio Pro laptop and I’m hoping this might solve it somehow.
      Unless ofcourse someone knows a way to fix this? (win reinstall is of no avail)

      If you have a specific reason to install the patch, sure, go ahead. Let us know if it fixed the problem!

      Hi Woody,

      So it didn’t fix the problem but didn’t cause additional problems either (have yet to do an integrity scan though). I can’t tell for sure as of now, but installing realtek’s latest driver seems to have fixed it. I was reluctant to do this as my laptop came with some nifty sound equalizing software that might have gotten ruined now, but alas.

      Hi again,

      So the driver update did only work for a day or so. But I have figured out what caused the audio distortion after all and thought I might share it with you. I’m apparently not the only one with this issue too: the culprit is Bitdefender. If you turn off the ‘block portscans’ feature in the firewall module, the sound issue is gone. Bitdefender is currently working on some fix. This is probably not safe to turn off I guess, using public networks…

      @Frank Is this on Windows 8.1, December 2014 Cumulative Update?
      That patch is a CU and it has multiple components. So due to interdependencies with other updates, it is likely that you are offered either a part of it for repairing, or a newer fix for known issues.
      I think that now after 1.5 years since that update, it is highly advisable to install it or whatever is left to be installed and bring your system fully up to date.
      It is optional due to many complaints about the reliability of that update, but otherwise is one of the useful updates.
