I’m running Win 98SE and began to notice a lot of hard disk activity. I tried installing a RAM management program to optimize the RAM and was able to free up about 100 MB (192MB total on system). However, I still noticed a lot of activity. Went through the programs running (control-alt-del) and ended everything except Explorer, Systray, ZoneAlarm. I then optimized the free RAM and didn’t touch the PC. Over about the next 5-10 minutes the amount of free RAM dimenished to almost nothing. What could be using RAM with nothing running? I can tell by the ZoneAlarm icon that it is not doing anyting since it changes to a different icon when it is being used. Suggestions would be appeciated.

Ctrl + Alt + Del doesn’t show everything that is running. Go to start programs accessories system tools and System Information. Expand the Software Environment Option and click on Running Tasks. I suggest there is something there that is doing the damage.
