I have used Quicken personal finance software for years to provide a single interface to keep track of bank accounts, credit cards and other assets and liabilities. I find it helpful to manage bills and income and maintain digital check registers. Several years ago Quicken changed its services such that the standalone version no longer provided a single process to download activity for almost all of my accounts (a problem still exists with automatic downloads of Amazon store card activity). To continue this service an annual subscription to the online version of Quicken was required. I therefore changed to the online service. A week ago I started getting an error message stating the Quicken download server was not available and to try again in 10 minutes. This blockage continued for several days. All other functions that I regularly use continued to function without a problem. I believe the problem began with an automatic update of Quicken.
I though that one possibility was a corrupted file, so I attempted to reinstall Quicken. The reinstall process proceeded to uninstall the existing version and then attempted to install the latest version. During the install process and error occurred. An error message popped up that Quicken needed Internet Explorer version 6.0 (!!) to be first installed and an error occurred during that install. Unfortunately the existing version of Quicken was deleted during the process and is no longer available for other working functions.
I contacted Quicken support and was advised that Quicken needs the latest version of Win 10 to run. Despite the current AskWoody recommendation to delay the March update, I went ahead and did the update. This did not solve my problem. The Quicken support agent put me on hold to “check on the issue” and never returned with the call eventually dropping.
I am looking into alternatives to Quicken but what I’ve seen so far doesn’t blow me away. I would rather try to get Quicken working again. I am running 64 bit WIN10 Pro on a Dell desktop with an intel Core i7-7700 CPU. My operating system and programs reside on a 2T SSD.
Has anyone encountered these or similar problems with Quicken reinstall or Internet Explorer 6.0 install? I would appreciate any comments/suggestions/help. Thank you for your time in plowing through this post.
