I’ve created some pleading templates in Word 2003. We are attempting to use them in Word 2007. Word 2007 is configured to save documents backward compatible. In these pleading templates I have (and use) tables and they are stored as auto text. When I use them in Word 2007 the table text is indented! From Word 2007 I “inserted” the Autotext into my template and made sure my indents were set to “0” and resaved the tables as part of Quick Parts. It will not stay formatted correctly. See example.

I put your content into my own quick parts and it retained the indents happily – so I can’t replicate your problem here.

I would try to avoid any local formatting in the table before you store it. You may need to define a style for the text in these tables. Before you save the content into Quick Parts, ensure there is no local formatting by pressing Ctrl-Q and Ctrl-Space. If nothing changes, then put that into the Quick Part and try again.

Thanks, Andrew for even tackling it. The issue was there are not suppose to be any indents. I think I figured it out, though. I think it is a bug! (imagine that!) If I save the tables in AutoText in Word 2003 and simply use the template in Word 2007, but never re-save the template in Word 2007, I’m OK. But if I do anything to that template in Word 2007 and save it, the tables in QuickParts add the indent (which is not what I want). I think I probably need to learn more about QuickParts… Thanks…

I think you may be right about the behavior being a bug. I’ve no need to trouble myself about quick parts right now. But I did open your file in W2007. The column text was indented as you described. I selected all instances of the style and reapplied it. The indent disappeared. Ctrl+spacebar had no effect, but ctrl+q changed the indent so you I could make out the words though they were centered on a point near the right cell borders. Reapplying the style fixed that too.

Yes, re-applying the style will fix it, but then you have to fuss with it every time you use that QuickPart entry. Re-defining the QuickPart entry would fix it for one or two uses, then it would revert back to having indents. What I finally did was open the template in Word 2003 and re-defining the Autotext and saving it and them making it READ ONLY. So far (one whole day) it seems to be behaving.

Glad you found a workaround. There have been other reported problem with Quick parts that make me happy that I’m not using them just yet. I don’t regard reapplying styles as a fix, but as proof of the flaw, which should be reported to MS.
