I am moving data from various sources into A2k via the ascii file import wizard. The postal code field, among others, are recognized as doubles because the first field is of the form 20023. The box to select another type (text) is grayed out.

In self defense, I have made the first record to be imported one of ‘z’ all the way across, so the wizard thinks everything is text. This is what i want, and I throw this row away after import, but i am wondering if there is a cleaner way?

There are two ways that can even be used together. One is to create a table that contains the fields and data types you need and then when you import, specify that table instead of a new table. The import will append the records to that table, so you can import postal code into a text field automatically. The other is to create an import specification that defines the names of the fields and their data types and then to use that spec by clicking on the Advanced button on the wizard.
