GuestJanuary 16, 2017 at 11:00 pm #12885Fyi, China-based Baidu is mainly a Mandarin Chinese Web Search company used mostly by the 1.3 billion China-Chinese n other Chinese elsewhere, similar to the dominant Google Search for the English-speaking world = business model is based on ad revenue from free web services = quite different from the business model of M$ which is mainly based on sales of Windows licenses, Windows hardware n subscription to Cloud services.
……. Would hv been better for Baidu to hire an ex-Google executive.
.
Similarly, Naver is the Google Search of South Korea n Yandex is the Google Search of Russia.
……. Surprisingly, most of the Japanese n Taiwanese still use Yahoo n Google for their web search = less accurate or relevant search results. -

GuestJanuary 17, 2017 at 12:27 am #12886An Interesting departure undoubtbly a good catch given his background for Bai du and the PRC having both Yahoo and the “keys to the M$ kingdom” experience under his belt. It seems to be the norm just lately for the PRC to draw back experienced folk in to the fold giving them a much needed leap in technology and the returning “expats” an out of this world lifestyle made easier by renumeration packages from the “west” and I believe rather substantial “positively generous” financial Incentives from Beijing. This was explained in an Interview at the “Black hat” convention in Vegas last year. As for any holes developing in the alleged “Great Firewall” of China probably early days but for an eastern rival to M$ a distinct possibility in the future. More secure than M$s current offerings? as secure as it could be with the PLA, probably, breathing down the neck of the developers at every stage of the development.
