I have looked thoroughly (I think) but I can not find a way to show, (on my screen)a print preview to see if everything will print properly. Is there such a feature as there is in Word? Sybil

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

GuestJanuary 12, 2001 at 12:12 am #1775594Publisher doesn’t have a Print Preview the way other MS Office applications do. While I don’t pretend to second-guess Microsoft, I think it is because there is only one screen mode, which mimics the printed page.
You can simulate a print preview by viewing the whole page (zoom in or out), making sure that “boundaries and guides”, and “special characters” are turned off. Commands to do this are available on the “View” menu. For a step-by-step explanation, type “print preview” in the Help Answer Wizard.
While this might not be exactly what you’re looking for, it seems to do the job. -

GuestJanuary 29, 2001 at 12:23 am #1777219Bob, you are right, that doesn’t cover my problem. What exasperates me is that I waste a print when the bottom (for instance) border isn’t fitting in the print area and I didn’t know it.
I guess there is no remedy so I am trying out other programs such as Pagemaker and Quark.
Do yo use Publisher? I find it good on “loose” pages, but when I need to make a very tight layout, it’s awful.
Anyway, thanks for your reply.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 29, 2001 at 3:13 am #1777226Hey Sybil,
To ensure that you don’t run into the nonprinting area go to the Tools menu and run the Design Checker. That should help you. Are you running commercial print jobs with bleeds?
As for flexability–when trying to put together a tight layout, Pagemaker seemd to be more suited for that type of work. I do like Publisher for those who have little or no design background and need all the prompts that Publisher gives. Its easy to use out of the box.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 29, 2001 at 3:11 am #1777225If you want to make sure you don’t insert outside the print area of your printer, 1st cover a page entirely in a dark colour and print it. Next measure the bits your printer has missed and then set the page guides (the pink and blue edge lines – I forget what Publisher calls them) to the measurements of your white edges.
