Using the most excellent search facility on the Lounge I found a really intesting thread from earlier in the year re the above. I checked out the mvps article mentioned – which seems to have undergone a couple of changes!

However, I copied and pasted it into my template and it works a treat.

The only thing is how do I edit the template? The only way a present seems to be to go into the vb editor select and cut the vb – paste it into my doc template body for safe keeping. Do any edits and then cut and paste it back?

    Any suggestions please?

    Cheers

    Roberta

      Hi Roberta,

Without repeating your search and your work, I don’t have a clue what code you are talking about or which MVP article. Could you provide some links?

The only way I know of to protect headers and footers is to protect at least a section of the document for forms. If you have multiple sections, only one section needs to be “protected” and that section need not have any text! See the attached file for an example.

Oops sorry – you are abolutely right – it made perfect sense to me at the time!
the link was to this address: http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customizatio…d2000Header.htm

Thanks for your input re section and protection – am I right that if I go down this route one would have to switch off the protection to get Page set up back?

also, thanks for all the other links you have included – these have already answered a number of other queries which were cropping up!!

        Thanks

        Roberta

        however
