    Hello,

How can I use the Proper function with plural words..

    example:
    ISLAND’S turns into Island’S

Is there anyway to make it “Island’s”

      How about:

      =SUBSTITUTE(PROPER(A1),"'S","'s")

whisperyour example is not a “plural word” it is possesive word. There should be no problem with plural words. The apostrophe (‘) is what confuses the proper function…

Thanks! I didn’t think of that smile

(I’ve never been very good at the subject of grammer – so an apostrophe makes a word possesive?)

Yes, in general (in English/american at least) an apostrophe with an “s” is possesive

          The island is beautiful (singular)
          The islands are beautiful. (plural)
The island’s beauty was enhanced by the blue ocean.(singular possesive)
The islands’ beauty were enhanced by the blue ocean.(plural possesive)

Though an apostrophe can also designate a contraction” I’m (I am), don’t (do not) it’s (it is), etc.

Possesive pronouns do not have the apostrophe (some do not have the “s”): mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, yours, theirs
