I often use TechNet/Sysinternals‘ Process Explorer (ProcMon) because it’s more granular and provides more process information than Task Manager. However, whilst examining an issue recently with rampant CPU usage in Win 10 1803 I noticed an anomaly that I cannot explain. The anomaly is that the ‘Total’ CPU usage shown in ProcMon is often markedly different from that shown in Task Manager.
It’s not just an occasional difference… it’s a regular difference. Here’s some screenshots to show the issue in just one session. (As I hope the first screenshot shows clearly, each one was taken with the ProcMon and Task Manager windows butted together.)
