Windows 10 with all the latest updates (Version 21H1 OS Build 19043.1320).
    Google Chrome 95.0.4638.54 (Official Build).

Until a few days ago, and for years, I’ve been getting notifications from YouTube channels I subscribe to. Normally, when I click on one of these notifications, Google Chrome opens a new tab and the associated video begins to play.

Now, whenever I click on a YouTube notification, I get a YouTube tab displaying a cartoon monkey with a magnifying glass and this error message: “This page isn’t available. Sorry about that. Try searching for something else.”

This happens with any notification from any YouTube channel. I’m signed in to YouTube, and when I click on the “Notifications” bell at the top of the YouTube screen there’s an entry for that video. I can get to that video and watch the video by selecting the entry from the list, but I should be taken directly to the video when I click on the notification.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out what’s broken. I’ve deleted all the cookies for YouTube and cleared the browser cache, in case there was some corruption going on, but that hasn’t helped.

Any ideas what I can try to get YouTube notifications working right again?

I’ve been getting that error for a few days now.  I use Firefox on a Mac. It used to work perfectly.

On a Mac: System Preferences\Notifications\Firefox – add settings
        On Firefox: Preferences\Privacy & Security\Permissions\Notifications\Settings – add the website

I know you were responding to a different comment, but this is a Windows 10 Home PC. This would appear be be a problem at YouTube, not on my PC or the Mac.

Also, I use Google Chrome and not Firefox as my default browser. And I haven’t changed any settings in Google Chrome in a very long time. YouTube notifications simply started misbehaving suddenly.

I get lots of notifications from other Web sites (mostly news sites), and they all work fine except for YouTube.

Although your system setup is completely different from mine, I guess it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one seeing this issue with YouTube.

There is a useful workaround for this issue. 1. Google YouTube. 2. From the search results open the YouTube website. 3 You should, in theory, be logged into YouTube automatically. 4. On the top of the page, to the right of the search box, there should be an icon for downloading YouTube as an app. 5. Click on the icon and it will install the YouTube app and will put a YouTube icon in the Start Menu and on the taskbar. Now, when you get a notification from YouTube just click on the YouTube taskbar icon and open the video from the bell icon at the top of the screen.
