I have a hyperlink in an Access 97 database that is supposed to open a web application on a network drive. The hyperlink works for most users but a for a few PC’s Internet explorer just opens a blank window. The users who cannot open it properly are standard users. However, if I log onto the same PC with my admin account the application starts fine. The same standard user accounts can open the application on other PC’s and can also open it directly (not from the hyperlink in Access) from the PC’s that cause problems. I have tried upgrading IE to ver 6.0 plus repairing the IE installation but it does not fix the problem. Have recreated the hyperlink but still no joy. I don’t know if the problem is in Access or IE. Has anyone seen this problem before? The PC’s in question run WINNT 4.0 with SP6 and Office & with SP2a.

Since you can follow the hyperlink on those PC’s, and the users can follow the hyperlink on other PC’s, the problem seems to be neither in Access nor in Internet Explorer, but in some setting for those specific users on the problem PC’s. Do you use roaming profiles? If so, you could try deleting the local copy of the profile of one of the users who has problems on one of the PCs. It should be recreated when the user next logs in on that PC.

We don’t use roaming profiles. I will try try some other standard user accounts though to see if they give the same problem.
