• Problem with Firetrust B9

I have been using Firetrust Benign for several years without trouble. On 3 Feb B9 quit scanning incoming e-mail and quit filling in the log of messages scanned, all for no apparent reason. Also the footnote is not added to outgoing messages.
I am using Windows XP SP/2 and Outlook Express.
The B9 program is active in the lower tray.
I have followed the troubleshooting guide to check POP3 server settings and the Account Properties to make sure .b9 has been added to the end of the POP3 server setting.
I have checked the Symantec Internet Security Firewall to ensure that B9 is “allowed”.
My question is: What should I now do to get this B9 program working again?
    Sincerely,
    Slim

Have you checked their support pages ??

      Never mind.

        Dear Doc,
Yes I am a registered member of that forum. I have posted a request for help there. However, I have gone through the trouble shooting procedures posted and all to no avail. I suspect there is something rather simple that occured that caused this program to cease scanning incoming e-mail. I just haven’t been able to put my finger on it. If you can provide any assistance I would appreciate it greatly.
        Sincerely,
        Slim

          Slim,

I’m not personally familiar with this program, and thus went to the internet for some background and came across your post in their support forum.

I’d wait a bit for an answer from them regarding this issue. If it is not a known issue with their software then I would suggest that you try to uninstall and reinstall the program and see if that resolves the problem. Sometimes, as you surmised, a setting has been changed or an underlying file has become corrupt and removing and reinstalling the program can sometimes correct this.

I don’t know if this program has any settings data or other personally created data that you might want to save and restore after the reinstall but would suggest that you check and back it up if there is any. HTH smile

Thanks Doc. I’ll hang loose for a while to see if a response to my query on the other forum will prove productive.
The trouble with re-install is that the program was downloaded from the Firetrust web site and I do not have a separate original disc. Perhaps they will provide another install upon request.
            Sincerely,
            Slim

If you can prove that you purchased a copy (an email thanking you for your purchase or one with an activation key code, etc.) they should be willing to provide a download or offer a free upgrade or for a nominal fee.

For future reference, I try to save all install files for downloaded programs and utilities. When I download things, I select the Save option rather than the Run option and save the file to my desktop, creating a new folder for it in the download process. After the download I install the software and then move the folder, containing the install file and a document I create with a description of the program (copy & paste from the website or a review of the software) and any activation codes or passwords, to a folder I call Software Downloads on a storage partition or drive. Then if I ever need to reinstall or refer back to the description or to prove ownership of a legitimate copy, I know where to find that information.

              Dear Doc,
Sounds like an excellent system for maintaining a record of downloads. I will try to emulate it.
              Sincerely,
              Slim
