I recently downloaded a new version of Firefox, which introduced a new Adobe Acrobat plug-in for reading PDF files. Whenever I click on a PDF file to read it, the file is opened in a Firefox window instead of the usual Adobe format. I prefer the appearance and the features of Adobe Reader, so after a bit of research, I was able to go to an item in the Options menu, select Applications and set the Portable Document Format (i.e. PDF) to Adobe Reader. If I click on the thumbnail of a PDF file on my main screen, it will indeed open the file in Adobe Reader. However, the thumbnail shown is the Firefox thumbnail, so unless one is aware of the discrepancy, it can be difficult to identify the file to be opened. (I have a whole page of manuals and other documents, many of which are in PDF format, but it is not a good look to be pretending to open Firefox). Can any of you clever people out there help me?
For the record, I have Firefox, IE11 and Chrome mounted on my system, because I am webmaster for a local community group and I need to know how any application I mount on the site functions in any of the popular browsers.

Right click on one of the PDF files. Choose Open with>Choose default programs. Choose Adobe Reader and tick Use this application for all pdf files.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Calimanco. Actually, the procedure you suggested did open PDf files with Adobe Reader, but I had already achieved that by setting it as the default program in Firefox. However, your suggestion did point me in the right direction. What I did was right-click (as you suggested) but then select Properties, then the General tab, and finally select the value of Opens With to Adobe Reader.
Miraculously, the Firefox thumbnail (logo, or whatever) disappeared from all of the files on display! Thanks, again.
