Exactly how are these firmware tested before they are released to the public? Firmware is pretty important not to be vetting it properly before release.

Good question – and this on Microsoft’s flagship hardware.

I have a brand new surface pro 6 and I have to disable/uninstall the marvell avastar driver and restart the machine every time I power up to get it to connect to my home wifi. Has anyone figured out a fix?

      Hi,

I have the same problem with the Wifi Driver Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Net (version: 15.68.17013.110) on my new Surface Pro 6 (Model 1796) i5 with Microsoft Windows 10 Home (OS Build: 10.0.18362.356). It often loses network data packages or is connecting only to WiFi after trying it 3-4 times.

Does anyone know is there a new driver available and where?

      Thanks

I had avoided doing updates, however then had issues turning my Surface back on (this is my second as my Surface Pro 4 was replaced by Microsoft store earlier this year due to issues). Traveled to nearest capital city to Microsoft store the othe rweek to discuss. They advised that I needed to do the updates and that this would fix the issue. I did this, first my windows start button wouldn’t work. I used a youtube guide to fix this however then wifi totally disappeared from my computer. So many hours trying to get my Surface to work smoothly. Waiting for a call back from Microsoft.

Basic roll-back procedure for those googling and finding this page:

START > SETTINGS > Network & Internet > Change Adapter Settings
Right click on the Wireless adapter (Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller)
      > Properties. > Configure > Driver tab > Uninstall Device – Make sure to checkbox “Delete the driver software for this device”
      Restart Computer.
Then Start > type ‘Device Manager’ (or, windowsbutton+r –> devmgmt.msc)
click Action menu item > “Scan for hardware changes”
the wifi will be reinstalled under NETWORK.
      driver – 15.68.9112.23

      Same issue. Surface Book 2.

Had to roll back the wifi adapter driver to 15.68.9112.23.

I only had one location where the wifi failed. (error 0x000450085 i think). So there is something about that driver that kills this specific connection. I do think that this location is using a Mesh type AP network.

I was also fine on a driver that ended in .57 (though I don’t understand why windows rolls back to different versions…!)
