Just got this from Fred Marshall: Woody – KB4056892 [the Jan. 3 1709 cumulative update] seems to not have widespread impact. But we’ve been hammered.

There would be no difference between delta and full, both have same new components
delta update only relies on previous cumulative to get the not-changed components

Have had no problems with KB4056892.
Ended up relaxing my settings and updating from 1703 to 1709. KB4056892 installed as well afterwards. No issues. 1709 has been as rock solid for me as 1703 was. (I no longer defer updates or upgrades since I back up every night with Veeam and restoring an image is easy.)
      2 Intel systems – i7 4790K + Z97X-SLI motherboard, Pentium G3258 + H97 Performance motherboard. NVIDIA GPU’s in both.

I couldn’t even install it, myself. It just did this when I tried to install it directly from the catalog…

      Win10POS

I need to drop back to an earlier snapshot and try again.

Edit: Hm, I just looked at the dates. I’m thinking it’s older than the last cumulative update I put in. Guess I should think before I test (embarrassed smiley here).

      • #162465

did you install the KB4058702 January 2018 servicing stack update before installing KB4056892, Noel?

Downloaded KB4056892 on three different PCs on 5-1-2018  without any problems

Microsoft reissued the update for windows 10 1703-It’s more like a new update for windows 10 1703 which I hid along with the anti-virus.

How many times is microsoft gonna reissue or release new update types? It’s ridiculous

That’s the very reason for the DEFCON system. Woody encourages users to WAIT until the bugs are ironed out before installing updates.

mr anonymous, if you are really using v1703 instead of v1709, KB4057144 for Win10 v1703 recently came out which is supposed to replace KB4056891 for v1703.

I have IE11 tab icons OK after this update.

      Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities:
KB4056892 installed OK on my desktop PC but refused to install on my laptop. After several attempts plus using the Updates Troubleshooter, which found and corrected two errors and then reported a third which it couldn’t repair, I contacted Microsoft Support. They tried another unsuccessful update remotely and then initiated a Windows repair, which I finished. After that KB4056892 installed successfully.

BIOS Update: This week I acquired a Dell Latitude Ultrabook and it took the update in its stride. Yesterday Dell sent me a BIOS update which I installed today. Afterwards the Dell passed the Intel vulnerability test.

        Oy. Not another one. Two….

The first one, the Servicing Stack Update, is in the KBNew list.

The second one, the 1709 cumulative update, is not, as of noon Central Time.
