Background
We evaluate testing laboratories against specific criteria to assess their capability of carrying out nominated tests of product for specific properties.
The organisation must show that they have the capability and capacity (both resources and trained staff) to carry out the nominated tests.
Generally, our staff evaluate the organisation for capacity. i.e. They have adequate accommodation and management systems documentation in place that should assure they function in a suitable manner. The capability is evaluated by what we term as a “Technical Expert”. These peers that have expertise in the areas that they will be evaluating.
To support this we have a custom built SQL based CRM package that records the organisation, its contact detail, contacts and its “Scope of Accreditation”. The database also records the date jobs are scheduled, when they were carried out, by whom, how the team was made up, costs and resources used. It also schedules the next job at specified intervals depending on programme type.
Problem
When we were using Office 2003 operating in an XP environment we could generate a “Scope” document very easily (these can be up to 40 pages). This requires the database to create a Word document by picking all the information from the database and depositing it in the Word document at specified bookmarks. This was all done in the background allowing staff to carry on with other work. However, now we are using Office 2010 under a Win 7 environment the data extraction is done more in the foreground not allowing staff to do any other work. This made evident when staff noticed that if they were doing cut and paste operations, which they do frequently, they found that some of the information that should have been placed in the “Scope” document was being pasted into the document being worked on.
What is happening is that the system is using the Windows cut and paste to create the “Scope” document. We are aware that with Office 2010 MS have increased the security around many operations.
Can anyone tell me if this could be what is affecting our, what should be , simple operation?
I have attached a 13 page “Scope” document for one of our clients. NOTE: These are public documents and could be obtained by anyone from our website http://www.ianz.govt.nz/directory/ and inputing the right information.
