One thing that annoys me a lot is web pages that don’t have a ‘Printer friendly’ button but spread out to the right past the edge of the screen. When you try to print them you lose the right part of the page that you can’t see on the screen. Changing the screen resolution doesn’t affect the way the page prints. Is there a way to print the whole page without losing the right edge?

      There are two unrelated problems:

      (1) Author specified a width that will fit only on a landscape oriented page. Like our company website.

      (2) Author specified a width that exceeds 100% of the page no matter how wide the paper. Some older Microsoft FrontPage themes/templates allowed for this.

In the first case, you can print Landscape. Always preview to see whether that is necessary. In the second case, you’re stuck.

Either way, it makes Firefox’s “Shrink to Fit” print scaling option very attractive. grin

Aha! I have Firefox. I should have thought of that. I will try it pronto.

IE 7 Beta 2 has a ‘shrink to fit’ option for printing also. IE 7 is BETA software. While I use it everyday all day at work & home with very few problems YMMV.

I have not tried IE7 yet, but perhaps I should.

What problems have you found?

Occasional very high CPU usage that forces me to kill IE – maybe once a day or two. An occasional IE abort – maybe once a week or so. I’ve not really tried to diagnose either. I’ve just sent the error reports to MS. Neither has been enough bother to have me even think about uninstalling IE 7.

OK, I took the plunge and am now using IE7. The first thing that strikes me and annoys me greatly is the absence of the ‘File’ menu. MS says you can see it by clicking on the ‘Alt’ key; they mean pressing the ‘Alt’ key. This is true, but the File menu disappears again as soon as you select an item. I haven’t yet figured a way to keep it there all the time, but I think MS should at least give you the option. I much prefer the way the ‘Favorites’ menu cascades under the ‘File’ menu than how it appears when you click on the gold star.

I found the option to show the ‘File’ menu. Click on ‘Tools|Toolbars’ and select ‘Classic menu’.

Thanks Andrew for pointing to the section to retrieve the “old menu options” look. Funny what a person gets used to and then misses when it isn’t available! smile I mainly use FF but I like the new look of IE7 and it seems to be functioning just fine so far, which is a plus. yep
