We have an Epson XP 15000 printer connected to a Dell Inspiron desktop running Windows 10 Home (not S) with build 2004 and shared out. A few days ago my wife just got a new Inspiron desktop running same OS and build. I setup the new PC. We have an Ethernet network, to which both machines are connected. Before we got the new PC my wife was using an old Dell Latitude laptop and she was able to print reliably to the Epson XP 15000. When I first connected the new PC to the printer, printing worked fine from the new PC. But after a while (a few hours or maybe a day) print jobs will not print, but are shown in the print queue on the new PC. If I open the queue and choose “Restart” I see an error “the command could not be completed”. While fiddling around I saw a message saying the print spooler was stopped. I went to Services and status was blank so I started it and then status said Running. But still print jobs did not print. If I remove the printer in Devices and Printers then it will print, but will stop printing at some point later. Just now I tried printing a second print job just to test if it only prints once after the Remove/Install cycle and it printed. I looked at sharing on the host machine and permissions are Everyone for printing. When I reinstall the printer on the new PC I click Start > Run then type \\printername and am prompted for credentials. I enter my wife’s login name and password for the host machine and I see the printer as a resource. Double-clicking it installs the printer and then it works. I did see something when fiddling around on the host machine that indicated printing would not work if the host machine was sleeping, but I am sure my wife has been able to print before on the Latitude when the host machine was sleeping but I have the host computer set for turn display off in 15 minutes and sleep is set to never.
Thanks,
Don
