• printing out security permissions

    is there a utility which will either produce a document or a print out of permissions applied to shared folders. I have inherited a structure which does not follow any set pattern with ad hoc access permissions having been granted for very obscure reasons!!!

    Other than checking each folder/file individually and manually recording it would be really nice if I could automate the process!

      You might try ShareEnum from SysInternals for something GUI, or DumpSec from SomarSoft. I am a great fan of SysInternals utilities, particularly their PsTools series…

      I once tried a very promising product called Security Explorer (I think). Nice reports, but after making a lot of bulk changes to an NT server I completely ruined all the access control lists and had to rebuild them from scratch. So… be careful with any third party utilities. smile
