I have a ppt97 file. At 100% view the slides run off the right and bottom sides of the screen by about an inch or so. When I print a slide, no matter how I try to fit to page, the print output also is clipped at the right and bottom sides. I cannot print a slide so that it all fits on one landscape 8.5 x 11 inch page. What am I doing wrong?

Also, these slides are built on a master slide that is essentially a screen shot of an empty MSIE window. The slides differ only by what is inside the content window portion of MSIE. When I print a slide, the master slide portion does not print, only the content part of the slide that is added to the master slide prints. Why isn’t the whole slide printing?

    Thanks!

To start the troubleshooting I would go to File, Page Setup, and check what is set up there.
To zoom – try choosing Best Fit.

      Cheers

        Thanks for your response!

Zooming to Best Fit works on screen but does not affect printing of the slides.

        Page Setup:

Slides sized for: Letter Paper (8.5×11 in), have tried On-screen Show
        Width: 10 inches
        Height: 7.5 inches
        Number slides from: 1
        Orientation:
        Slides: Landscape
        Notes, handouts and outline: Portrait

        Print Setup:

        Print what: Slides
Scale to fit paper – checked

        Tools/Options/Print:

        Printing options:
        Background printing – checked
        Options for current document only:
Use the following default printer settings:
        Print what: Slides
Scale to fit paper – checked

Do you see anything obviously wrong here? Thanks!

Since you have Scale to Fit Paper checked in both print options places, that should take care of scaling the slide so it doesn’t run off the edge. It’s odd that it’s not working. Wonder if reinstalling the printer driver would help at all here? Oh, and try turning background printing off. (It may not help here, but you can leave it off, as it really just slows down printing. It’s not related to the slide background at all.)

You might also check http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00097.htm%5B/url%5D for a workaround. It’s not pretty, but if nothing else accomplishes it…

Is it possible that the landscape slides are printing in portrait view? Sometimes that’s an issue with certain printers, and it can often be resolved by changing the settings in the actual printer settings, not just within PPT. See http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00369.htm%5B/url%5D for some ideas on that.

You put me on the right track. I looked at View/Master/Notes Master and I saw that it was set up as portrait. So I left slide view as landscape, print setting in options as landscape, everything fit to page checked and changed the setting on the printer to portrait. That fixed everything. I even have the Master Slide part printing now. So my portrait slides were printing in landscape . . . Thanks!
