I have an HP 2540 All-in-One Printer. After a recent print jam, I am unable to connect my laptop via Wi-Fi, which is more of an annoyance than a problem. However, I am unable to view the ink status.

I understand it is possible to print a Printer Status Report without using the HP Smart app. I think can be printed by using a combination of buttons on the printer, but there seems no information about this on the HP website. Wondering if anyone can help.

A diagnostics page includes ink quantities, but I don’t think it can be produced from buttons on the printer:

      To print a diagnostics page

      a. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.

      b. Depending on your operating system, do one of the following to open the printer software:
      ● Windows 8: On the Start screen, right-click an empty area on the screen, click All Apps on the app bar, and then click the icon with the printer’s name.
      ● Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP: From the computer desktop, click Start,
select All Programs, click HP, click HP Deskjet 2540 series, and then click HP Deskjet 2540 series.

      c. In the printer software, click Print & Scan and then click Maintain Your Printer to access the printer toolbox.

      d. Click Print Diagnostic Information on the Device Reports tab to print a diagnostics page.

      e. Review the blue, magenta, yellow, and black boxes on the diagnostics page.

Here’s a YT video on how to print a test page from your HP 2540 printer control panel – https://youtu.be/fdSC5G40umM?si=FeseepYDKMRqCAtk

You can use the control panel on your HP 2540 to print a status report. But if that malfunctions, try this link to troubleshoot. Good luck! Print a Status Report from HP 2540

Thanks for the info, guys. I found an old post on an HP forum that explained that I could get a status report by pressing the ‘Cancel’ and ‘Wireless Direct’ buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. All serene now 🙂
