I have an old (>12 years) printer (Canon PIXMA MX330) that my late wife had connected to her Win7 machine.  I want to connect it my Win10 machine.  Canon tells me that they no longer support that model.

When looking on line for drivers, I can across two sites (actually more) that claim to have drivers for this printer.  “Drivers.com” and “Driverguide.com”.  I am wary of just downloading the drivers especially, from potentially harmful sites.

When I plug it in, the computer acknowledges that something has been plugged in but it doesn’t show in Device Manager.

Are either or both of the aforementioned sites reputable?  Should I be concerned with any driver I download?  I read somewhere that the Win7 drivers should “probably” work.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I always get drivers for Windows directly from the manufacturer. There have been stories in the past of third party driver downloads containing malware. I don’t know if those sites are okay or not, but I wouldn’t take the chance.

Instead, I suggest trying the driver Canon offers for older versions of Windows. It looks like their last one for the MX330 is for Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1, so there’s a fair chance it will work just fine with Windows 10 (Canon themselves say so.)

I’ve been doing this for years with my own Canon, which I detailed for another member recently:

      Hi wdyblash:

I can’t speak to the safety of those particular download sites, but I normally recommend that users stay away from third-party sites for both software and driver downloads whenever possible.

Just an FYI, if you go to the official Canon support page for the PIXMA MX330 at https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-mx330, choose Downloads, expand the Software & Drivers section, and change the OS to Windows 8.1 (64-bit) it will offer the MX330 series MP Driver Ver. 1.02 for Windows 8.1 x64/8 x64/7 x64/Vista64 (md64-win-mx330-1_02-ej.exe, rel. 01-Feb-2014). I have no idea if this driver would work correctly on a 64-bit Win 10 machine but I’m guessing it’s likely the last driver version Canon released for the PIXMA MX330.

The Canon PIXMA MX330 was released in 2009 and cost around $110 USD, and finding replacement ink cartridges [PG-210 (black) and CL-211 (colour) according to the chart <here>] might be difficult.  You might want to consider purchasing a new printer since a basic all-in-one inkjet printer is relatively inexpensive these days – it’s the ink cartridges that are the big expense.

      EDIT:

      Sorry, didn’t see SB9K’s post # 2575866 before I replied.

I have the Canon MX330 installed on my Windows 10 (moved from it’s Windows 7 install) and it has all the all in one features with multiple software for scanning, printing, and maintaining and works great.
It appears that Canon only offers the software and not the drivers on their support download site.
I will look on my system and see if I can copy the driver for you to download (as soon as I remember how). I do suggest you download and install the software that Canon does offer at their support site at the link below:

I get the 210 and the 211 cartridges in the extra capacity dual pack at Wal-Mart all the time. The cartridges are easy to find and the color printer has only 2 to buy, so its a lot cheaper than other multi-cartridge models. It is a great printer, but I mostly use its scanning functions (auto paper feed front and back scanning) and the Canon software that edits and stores the scans as PDFs. I might add that it prints awesome high quality photos on even glossy thick photo paper.

I found my MX330 install CD ROM with all the software and drivers on it. The Drivers folder has 64 bit (64X) folder and 32 bit (x86) folder of drivers. It also has the the driver installer for each type. There are numerous drivers in cabinet files that covers printing and faxing. Not sure how I can get a copy of the 64 bit folder and all the files in it to you.

This is a screen shot of the contents of the 64x Driver folder:

        MX.330-64x-Folder

This is a screen shot of the contents of the Driver folder in the 64X folder:

        MX330-64x-driver-folder

I suspect that printer drivers are in that PRNXPx64 cabinet file.

Any ideas on how I can get these files to you, let me know.

Would you be willing to put the win7x64 directory into Dropbox?

When Windows 10 first came out, we had little choice but to use 8.1 drivers. I can’t say I ever had any issues using them.

I would avoid Windows 7 drivers where possible.

Maybe, set a System Restore point to be safe.

You would better off using the 8.1 x64 drivers from Canon’s website – they will be the most up-to-date and therefor the least likely to have compatibility issues with Windows 10.

      OP here

I have been to the Canon website.  When I enter MX330, I am told that Canon no longer supports that model.  I have tried the 8.1×64 drivers as well as the 7×64 drivers.

In all cases, the install programs run with the standard license acceptance and geographic location questions.  It then proceeds to decompress and “install” the drivers and then tells me to plug the printer into a USB port and wait for the installer to find it.  It never finds the printer.  I have tried two different USB cables and front and back panel USB ports to no avail.

Having just moved, I reconnected my wife’s win7 machine, connected the printer and it works as advertised.  I can’t locate whatever disks I may have had for this printer.  We replaced her computer in late 2017 and I don’t remember having any issues getting this printer to work.  At that point, Canon was probably still supporting this model.  I probably downloaded the drivers from Canon and installed the printer without any problems.

Would you be willing to put the win7x64 directory into Dropbox?

I have zipped the x64 folder from the install CD-ROM and uploaded it to my free hosting site (Media Fire) which is like Dropbox. The page to download the zipped file is at this link:

      x64.zip

The file is 16.57 MB in size.  This is a free hosting site, so be sure to select the x64.zip file to download. After clicking to download the file more ads will pop open, just close them. Click to download the file and ignore all the rest.  I tried (2x) to upload here on Askwoody because it says my account can upload attachment of any size or type, but the 16.57 MB zip file trigger WorldPress to block it and my IP address (and no I didn’t use a VPN).  I guess any size or type is not quite true.

Once you download and unzip look for Setup64 app in the DrvSetup folder as this is the 64 bit installer app.

Let me know if you need other files from the install CD-ROM.

After a few botched attempts,  I finally ran the “delete drivers” program, then the Setup64 program, and IT WORKED!!

I now have both my old cheap HP printer/scanner and the Canon printer.  One reason I wanted to use her printer was that I have extra print cartridges for it.

Thanks again for the files and directions.

      • #2576593

        Glad that worked for you.

Other users must have wanted a copy of those drivers too, considering the number of downloads of that zipped file.  After all, the MX330 is an excellent printer/scanner with document feeder.
