Winows XP Home, after Microsoft updates the printer stoped working with error message “print spooler not running”
opening up services I find that the print spooler service is no longer listed.
Only advice I’ve been able to find so far is to re install XP. Any advice will sure be welcome.

Thanks, but I did that yesterday with no results.
I did find a solution for Vista that involved making a registery change.
This seems to be a fairly common problem and the only solution I’ve been able to find for XP is to reinstall
which is not to practial for this computer as the owner lives in a small town where not many claim to be good at fixing computer problems.

      many thanks

The file you need is “spoolsv.exe” and it must be in the WindowsSystem32 folder.

If you can’t find it there, do a search to see if it’s anywhere else on the PC.
If you find it elsewhere, copy it to the above mentioned folder.

If NOT, copy it from another PC running XP and put it in that folder.
Reboot and see if the service is back, in “Services.msc”.

Well, at least, that’s where I’d start.

      Good Luck,
