I’m printing from a Win10 pro Laptop Wifi(static IP) to a networked (wired, static IP) printer(s).  One printer is an HP LaserJetPro P1606dn, I added another printer Lexmark MX331adn, both are wired and have static IP’s. I can’t print a test page on either printer without it erroring out.

If I reboot the laptop both print jobs release and print without doing anything else besides rebooting.

I can connect to both printers using their embedded web servers IP addresses.

When I installed the Lexmark printer using windows default drivers it used a WSD port, I switched it over to it’s designated IP address where it won’t print. IF I switch it back to the WSD port it created on install, it prints ok.

I uninstalled the last two MS Updates (KB5031904 & KB5031356) hoping they were causing issues but that hasn’t helped.

Not sure what to try next?

      Here are some thoughts.

Are you using the s/w from the OEM or the Smart Print App? I never could get the latter to work. And I still use the Win7 or 8.1 full s/w from the OEM on Win10. It seems to work better for me.

Have you reserved the IP address for each printer in your router?
If you are setting the static IP address in the menu on the front of the printer, are you also verifying that in Control Panel>Devices & Printers> right click on printer > Properties> Port Tab that the TCP/IP port is configured correctly and checked (ie. moved from the WSD port)?

I know it’s not secure, but have you tried enabling SMB? Control Panel >Programs & Features> Turn Windows Features on or off? If that doesn’t help, be sure to disable it again.

PKCano, yes for the HP printer. I’m using the built in software that comes with the printer, downloaded it from the printer using the web interface of the printer.

I have also reserved the IP in the Ports tab. The HP LjPro P1606 doesn’t have a user screen to add the IP in the printer alone. I normally use the “the printer that I want isn’t listed” but the printer comes with the drivers in the printer itself.

Paul T, I have turned “off” the ‘Let Windows manage my default printer’, I don’t like that setup! I always prefer to have that off.

I let windows setup the Lexmark printer, I am just downloading the OEM Lexmark drivers now to see what that does.

FYI, I did not mention, these are setup on a network with multiple Pc’s (small business) this is the only Pc/laptop with issues. The printers are working with other Pc’s.

Not to slightly disagree with the esteemed PK but I don’t think I’d enable SMB v1 just yet.  I do want to pile on her recommendation to ensure that the printer has a static IP address in the printer itself.

WSD ports do not work reliably – in my experience.

Have you turned off “let Windows manage my default printer” under Settings > Printers & scanners?

You could try removing one printer and reinstalling it manually using the IP address of the printer. Click “the printer that I want isn’t listed”, then “add a printer using an IP address…”

      cheers, Paul

I tried a Network reset, but that didn’t seem to help either.

I finally uninstalled the Anti-Virus software and that seems to have fixed the problem. Now I have to reinstall the AV and I retest.
