• Preserve vertical spacing (Word 2003)

I have a number of lines in a document that are filled in with user responses from a dialog box. The number of lines can vary from two to four. A group of numbered items follow these lines of text and no matter what I do, they are pushed down (blank lines are inserted) for each line of text resulting from the user responses.

I would be very grateful for a suggested technique for persuading say a 4-line text box to keep all text within it and not inserting blank lines below it, or some other method of preserving the vertical spacing in the document, to avoid having to manually line up the numbered items each and every time.

You could use a borderless table, and specify that the height of the rows is fixed.

Thank you for your prompt response Hans!

You are wonderful (as always). I hadn’t considered using a table – it (of course) works a treat!!
