I need to use the Pack and Go feature with the viewer for a presentation we are using at our County fair this week. I am unable to find where to get the viewer, it didn’t load with the software and the dialog box says to click on the Download button. This takes me to the Office XP download site, but there is no reference to the Viewer that I can locate. Has anyone had any experience with this? How can I get the XP PowerPoint viewer? I can view the file with the 2000 viewer, but that doesn’t allow me the same functionality as the PowerPoint XP program, which allows multiple backgrounds in the same file. PowerPoint 2002 is really substantially improved. Thanks, Judy

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerAugust 8, 2001 at 12:33 am #536478The Viewer is apparently not included with office XP – see this knowledge base article which offers an alternate method for displaying presentations on a system without PPT 2002.
PPT2002: How to View Slide Shows Without PowerPoint(Q291348)
“Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and later provide better support for PowerPoint 2002 slide show features than the older Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer. Therefore, to achieve the highest slide show fidelity, save your presentation as a Web page, so that it can be viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer”
An additional article talking about what features the viewer does and does not support is at:

AskWoody LoungerAugust 8, 2001 at 2:24 pm #536566Thanks Catherine, I didn’t even look in the knowledge base on this one and I usually do. Sorry. I guess I was totally keyed into the Download Viewer button on the Pack and Go dialog box. That is VERY misleading. I need to run this particular show in a kiosk mode at the fair so will have to load XP on the computer, but that’s a pain too. Again, thanks for your prompt response. Judy
