• Powershell upgrade?

OK, so I did what I was told:  “You need to upgrade your Powershell.  You are running version 5.x and version 7.x is now current.”

Not exactly verbatim, but close enough.  So I did.

Now Win-X menu cannot find Powershell.

How do I fix this and also see that it runs the latest version I was “instructed” to install?

I see no need to upgrade PowerShell and I write in it. I am currently on V5.

How did you get a notification to upgrade?

      cheers, Paul

Windows Powershell V.5 is integrated and shipped with Windows.

      Commands: Powershell.exe (cmd line version)
      Powershell_ISE.exe (Integrated System Environment)

Powershell V6.0+ is cross platform PowerShell and runs on Windows and other platforms like Linux and iOS.

      Command: pwsh.exe

Note: the paths should be in your Environment.

For most casual users PS V5.1 is all they need. PS V6.0+ adds new features and capabilities which are geared more to those writing cross platform code and system admins. My guess is you’ll be just fine with V5 and I’d suggest using the ISE version as it contains several helpers such as a command list and auto complete.

I’ll try to consolidate and clarify.

I understand that PShell is integrated into Windows.  SO, foolish me, when I saw the message “You are using an older version of Powershell…Upgrade…”  I did.

Then I was not told that it would NOT replace v5.x, so immediately I ran into trouble thinking I had one version when in fact I now had TWO.

Since I am greener than a novice should I uninstall v7 and stick with just v5 for now? Since I cannot remove or replace v5x that would seem logical, and then I would just ignore future messages.

My only concern here is that by so doing I could disrupt the integrated v5 PShell.

I do know that running two versions when one really does not know what they are doing would certainly seem, at best, foolish.
