PowerPoint 2013 crashing during recording of audio

Hi, everyone. I have a 16-slide presentation with limited animations (a few simple fades on selected slides). I am running PowerPoint 2013 on a Windows i7 machine with 12 GB of RAM. I believe my setup is plenty powerful enough to support what I think should be a simple activity.

When attempting to record narration by using the method of Slide Show > Record Show, my computer repeatedly crashes. It doesn’t always crash at the same point, but typically early – during display of the first 2 or 3 slides. I want to sync the narration to the playing of certain animations, so I can’t really use the the Insert > Audio > Record audio method.

Any ideas, guidance, or similar stories with fixes?

I think you might have to try Office Diagnostic program. If I’m not wrong; the program shortcut is located in the Start menu for earlier versions (like Office 2003, 2002, XP) and for newer versions (Office 2010, 2007) it can be launched through the Options dialog.

For your version, I would ask you to click File button (top left corner), select Options. In the new dialog click Resources tab and then Diagnostic. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Hi, JackChill. Is this Diagnostic supposed to be in PowerPoint Option? I can’t find a Resources dialog there at all.

Some people have found that turning off Hardware Acceleration has helped with various problems in Office 2013

After a series of troubleshooting, I traced the problem to the accelerated graphics. Just disable the it. Here’s how:
1. File menu,
2. Options command
3. Advanced option
4. Scroll down to the Display section of the dialog,
5. toggle the check the box for “Disable hardware graphics acceleration
