I receive so many, many ad pop-ups on the internet. Are there any recommended programs to block these pop-ups?

I use Cookie Cop version 2.

As it’s name implies, it also lets you block cookies, images, and entire sites if you want.

It was a free utility published in PC Magazine, however, I think that Ziff-Davis now charges for downloads.

I use AdSubtract Pro. Besides pop ups, it will also block ads, referrers, cookies, animations and a lot of other annoying things. It has worked very well for me. I recommend it highly.

Either buy it or a 30 trial at ADSUBTRACT

Thanks. Looks like that might be a pretty good program. I’ll give it a try for 30 days.

      HI Race,

One I have been using for a while now that works very well is Pop-Up Stopper. It can be purchased in a variety of configurations or you can download a very basic free version that effectively stops all those pop-ups.

      Cheers,

The Google ToolBar 2.0 includes one of these, which works fairly well!

What a neat idea. I always use Google, so I’ll try it.

This one cured ALL my Pop up Ads: Go to Control Panel- Administrative Tools- dbl click Services-scroll down to Messenger- click to Hilight it-then Right Click and select Properties – Click the STOP button. Select Manual in the Start-up Scroll bar.

I presume that would deal only with the ads in Windows Messenger…?

These were the Grey coloured boxes with black lettering that I started getting as soon as I upgraded to XP Home. Don’t see them anymore.
