Not sure where this rant should go.  Hopefully it will be read.

    Monday 10/14/2019

Just after finishing Susan Bradley’s Xfinity report on the main page today, I couldn’t help see the irony in the Ask Woody website.  Just today, more than 50% of the postings are for “Plus” members only.  Add to that the Master Patch List.   So what’s next website folks ?   Why not just make the entire website “Premium” ?

The way I see it, Ask Woody is now simply a help forum….and that help ironically provided by the good members of this website that get little in return.  Certainly not money, just a thanks.

Thanks is very rare. Seems that when someone collects the more thankses one rises uphill? Ehhh?

Dont know. Some helpthoughts are good, and a lonely soul gets lost so easily. And Woody is one of a kind (about 4 in total on the good side of the wwweb, I think).

I hope people will unite to get micr0$0€t to change ….

One keeps hoping till they die.

Are you referring to just the blogposts, or the site posts? On a Monday (give or take for global timezones), the week’s newsletter topics get posted. The rest of the week, the blogposts are general and open to all. Just as all the Lounge replies and topics, none of which are for Plus members only. There certainly hasn’t been a 50% Plus-postings day today.

And remember that Woody allows non-Plus members access to the newsletter after a couple of months.

I, personally, believe a small donation to help pay the running costs of the site (which is run by dedicated volunteers) is appropriate. If there was no cost, there would be no request for donations!

Susan’s Master Patch List and the most recent half-dozen Newsletters are behind a paywall. Everything else is free. Everything.

Informa/Penton used to charge $39 (or $59) for the Newsletters and the Patch List.

Now, you get to decide how much to spend to open the paywall.

I’m one of those who has provided lots of help to others. I don’t want any money; my reward is in knowing that I have helped someone deal successfully with what can be daunting computer issues. Also, if my contribution helps Woody to be successful with this blog, that is rewarding for me.

A simple “thank you” is nice, and all that is ever desired.

You could always spin-up an alternative using your own funds – AskMixer, perhaps?
