..Pixelmator has signed an agreement to be acquired by Apple, subject to regulatory approval. There will be no material changes to the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator apps at this time. Stay tuned for exciting updates to come…

    * I use Pixelmator on my iPhone for small photo editing.

I bought Pixelmator Pro for my mac and prefer its GUI over Affinity Photo (I own an older version).  Both cost me around $50.  My skills were developed on Adobe Photoshop, and I need layers to feel productive in editing, for some reason.

Apple’s purchase of the team might mean big improvements in iPhoto.  Those editing tools are usable but not exciting, and too limited if you need to punch up a small area or eliminate an element (A.I. might improve editing, too).

Frankly, Apple needs an edge against Android, because the new features have been standard on android for a while, my coworkers tell me.

Judging from the past (Dark Sky) Apple probably will integrate Pixelmator’s features into Photo app and close Pixelmator.
