• Pivot vs Filter – strange results

    The attached workbook has a single column table on Sheet1 and a Pivot Table based on it on Sheet4.

    If you look at the Pivot Table it has 2 rows for AL but click on the Filter arrow for the single column table on Sheet1 and there is only one AL listed.

    The difference is that the Pivot Table honours the space following some of the ALs, whilst the Filter does not.

      Yes I find it odd that autofilter ignores leading and trailing spaces, especially when it can be problematic with pivots, lookups, etc.

      I don’t know of any option to turn off the feature in autofilter to make it exact. In addition to leading and trailing spaces, the autofilter also ignores the difference between a number and text that looks like a number, which can also lead to issues…
