    Hello loungers
I must have missed the boat about calculated fields in Pivot tables.
A simple exercise to calculate an extended price, being the product of Quantity and Unit Price
incorporated into a pivot table seems to yield the product of the sums, not the sum of the products.

Is this so or have I missed something?

If the response is to calc all Extended Price in the source data then what is the hoopla about pivot tables and the ability to create derived data etc (from Office 2000 on)

If the problem here is between the keyboard and the back of the chair then I will appreciate some one extending my education.
Otherwise it is a case of being aware of the limitations I guess.
    Regards
    Geof

Formulas (calculated fields) in a pivot table can be used to perform calculations on the aggregated data, for example to calculate sales tax over the sum of a series of amounts. If you want to perform calculations on the individual data, you must do that in the data table.

        Hello Hans
        Thanks for the confirmation.
It is a good tool, like all good tools they work better if the operator knows when to use them.

        Cheers
        Geof
