Just installed PSE 8 and ready to learn!
I use HP6500 series laptop with Vista SP2 and a Duo 1.8Ghz, 2 core CPU. The CPU is within the Adobe requirements specs but seems to be working quite hard with this software even when its opened but not being used. (I have checked that it is this prog using the CPU and not something else).
Is this normal and/or harmful? I have also set the Power Plan to ‘High Performance’.

Ps I tried using the Woody search facility but nothing showed up under Photoshop or Elements even though there are some threads?

There is a photo indexing feature in PSE, so when you are not using the program, it might be combing your hard drive for images. Have you noticed it building up the index in the “Organizer”?

Generally speaking, I find only a few features of PSE5 to be CPU intensive, mostly involving filters. But PSE is a very heavy user of (temporary) disk space, even if you have a lot of RAM, so for day-to-day usage, that likely will be the bottleneck.

Thanks for your inputs. The PSE8 seems to have settled down a bit now (not driving the CPU as hard) so I think you are correct … its something to do with indexing, me being a new user maybe.
