    Greetings,
I think I found a bug in Photoshop. It has to do with using a particular filename. I have contacted Adobe tech but they don’t want to look into it because my version of PS is PS CS5. However, this ‘bug’ will occur in even the most recent version of PS. I’ve received results from many others who have tested this issue and have had similar results. So it happens with different PCs, different versions of Windows or any jpg renamed ‘SA-QuitoGalap-001.jpg’.

So since you can rename any other old jpg with the filename ‘SA-QuitoGalap-001.jpg’, and will show the same results, is it a filenaming problem?
The problem happens when you have the file on the Desktop and try to open it using ‘Open with’ and choose PS. The PS splash screen shows but PS closes immediately.
But, if PS is already opened, PS will open the file with no problem.
And, PS will open the file if you open it directly within PS, using ‘File Open’.

This occurs with my old version of CS5 and also with other people’s more current PS versions. Only by changing the filename do I get different results.
I’ve compared the jpgs that present the problem with jpgs that don’t and I don’t see any difference in their details or properties.

I tried various combinations of filenames. Some will open, some will not:
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-quitogalap001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (lower case Q and G)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SAQuitoGalap001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (removed both ‘-‘)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SAQuitoGalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (removed the first ‘-‘)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-XuitoXalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (replaced Q and G with X)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-QGuitoalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (moved G)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-uitoGalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (removed Q)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-XuitoGalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (changed Q to X)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-quitoGalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (lower case Q)
Renamed the jpg as ‘QuitoGalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (removed SA-)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SQuitoGalap-001.jpg’ and PS does open using ‘Open with’. (removed A-)

Renamed the jpg as ‘S-QuitoGalap001.jpg’ and PS does not open using ‘Open with’. (removed A)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-QuitoGalap001.jpg’ and PS does not open using ‘Open with’. (removed second ‘-‘)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-Quitoalap-001.jpg’ and PS does not open using ‘Open with’. (removed G)
Renamed the jpg as ‘SA-QuitoXalap-001.jpg’ and PS does not open using ‘Open with’. (changed G to X or any other letter)

And when I rename it back to the original filename, ‘SA-QuitoGalap-001.jpg’, PS crashes.

A real puzzle… I don’t see any relationship between the 4 filenames that do not open in PS.
Just no sense to it. 😮

    Any ideas?
    Thanks…

    Gary
