I use the standalone outlook.com as a secondary email account. A friend sent me some photos that I rec’d okay but they came through sideways.

I sent them along to another party using Thunderbird and they came in right side up. I sent them along to my own Thunderbird account and they came in right side up.

This is not a big deal, but I was curious as to why that would be. I am running Win 10 2004 on an ultrawidescreen 34″ monitor. I don’t open outlook email on a full screen and when I did, the pictures were still sideways. Thanks

Probably ones where the image file has a non-default orientation internally and the applications handle that differently.

For example JPG encoding has a “natural” orientation and then the camera or whatever may include a marker that it’s not the correct orientation for this file. And this is still not supported everywhere (or just works wrong).

(Sort of easier to think about it like film. If you turn the camera, the film turns too, and different brand cameras might have it in differently… yes, I should have an old Yashica somewhere around here…)
