I am not sure exactly when this occurred but just noticed some photos that I copied from my iPhone via usb cable to Win 10 “pictures” folder as early as February or maybe January not only transferred the .jpg but in addition created an exact copy as a .mov. The .mov is about a 1 sec movie of the .jpg image. Really weird!

See attached images. Notice the pic number is the same on both. iPhonePics

Note, on the iPhone only the .jpg shows so the duplication must occur doing the copy to Win 10 (home version).

I know there have been some photo app problems with the Win 10 but could not find this particular situation on Woody.

This is an iPhone feature which can be disabled:

My camera takes a video every time I take a photo

      Take and edit Live Photos

The duplication does not occur on Windows, but Live Photos are accessed separately on the iPhone.

Wow, who would have guessed that the tiny circle in the upper right of camera is the switch. Seems like there would have been a way to make it more intuitive.

At present my status is showing preserve with live on, so I will switch off live and with preserve on, that should fix the problem. Thanks so much for the links that explained everything.

As a note Apple must have started turning live on with the update a few months ago because I never got these movies before and I download pics to my PC every month. I do remember a few months ago getting “LIVE” flashed on the screen when I clicked the shutter but had no idea what that meant.
